Liberty and United Global Solutions Team Up to Feed Houston’s Hungry

Spending your workday at The Liberty Group is not like working at an ordinary, run-of-the-mill company. One big reason for that is the FISH! Philosophy. Following this set of workplace principles helps us stay focused, keep a great attitude, help those around us, and have a lot of fun along the way!

The FISH! philosophy has four main pillars:

  • Be there
  • Play
  • Make their day
  • Choose your attitude

Last month, our employees decided to take a harder look at “Make their day.” The FISH! website describes it best:

Simple gestures of thoughtfulness, thanks and recognition make people feel appreciated and valued. When you make someone else feel good, you feel good too.”

We put this core FISH! principle into action, joining forces with our friends at United Global Solutions to donate as much food as possible to the Houston Food Bank and “make their day” for our less-fortunate Houston neighbors.

But we couldn’t just stop there. Following the “Play” principle, we made a game out of it, dividing into teams and challenging each other to see who could bring in the most food and provide the most relief to Houston’s hungry. As you can see, we may have gotten just a little bit excited:

Last week our competition ended, and after the final tally we were proud to have collected 2,209 food items (that’s 1,308 pounds!) for the Houston Food Bank.

Congrats to the winning team of Gary Wood, Kristi Riddle, Lucy Mace, Mary Martin, Matthew Smith, and Nina Patel who donated 554 items (more than a quarter of our total)!

The Liberty Group’s Dean O’Kelley and Laura Lestus and United Global Solutions’ Gary Wood, Anne Nguyen, and Joshua May worked together to deliver this huge haul to the Houston Food Bank. Thanks to all employees of both companies for coming together to make such a big impact for those who need it most.
